First Night Home
You can see her eyes look a bit dull and she doesn’t seem super perky healthy. Second photo shows her sleeping in her bed on the car seat, she had slept all the way after our walk together and me singing to her in the car.
I drove for about 90 minutes to get to the farm, I played Holly Cole’s “Romantically Helpless” album all the way there it kept me relaxed. It was also nice to sing along to.
At the farm it was like a sea of chihuahuas in the garden, I never saw so many! There were more in the shed next to the farm. The lady arrived at the same time as me with one of her daughters. I thought they were nice gentle people. And it did not seem that the animals were mistreated at all, there were just a lot of them. She took me into the kitchen and there were more dogs inside including one she had rescued from Spain who was 15 and looked very healthy.
A tiny black pug puppy was whining but she said not to pat him because he’d had special cream on him for a skin problem. And there I met Grace.
She was very interested in me and very very tiny. Oh so much smaller than I had expected, much smaller than Pugsley. And a funny little face, I said hello and thought “oh yes we could hang out just fine you and me”.
Her tummy looked a little loose from having had puppies and the woman commented on that but I said I don’t care about that she is lovely. It makes me love her even more because I think she’s too small to have puppies and she will not have anymore now that I have her.
The woman also gave me a bag of dog food and I paid the money. She gave me her Hungarian passport with all her breeding ancestry. I also got the vet passport.
We went to the car, lucky for me she did a poo in the garden before we got in, I though oh good no need to live in fear of that now ha ha. She was very anxious in the car so I drove away a bit then stopped and let her walk. She did not know how to walk on a leash but we did our best. I thought if she walks she will get relaxed. Then we went back to the car and she lay in my arms and I sang “Come Fly With Me” to her and she fell asleep and snored loudly. I stayed there for about 10 minutes then tried to put her in the dog bed on the floor of the car but she didn’t want that. So I put the dog bed on the seat and tied the leash to the seat for safety and we drove off slowly. She fell asleep and slept all the way to Amsterdam.
When I got the studio Leo was there and met her. His resistance to us getting a new dog instantly dissolved.
She’s quite jumpy on the street and shook all the way home from the studio so I just carried her. It’s almost impossible to walk with her on the leash she just doesn’t know how and winds around and around my legs. Everything is new and scary out there but here at home it’s becoming more normal for her. Later tonight we went on the street and she was shaking and nervous. It’s early days and she’s doing great.
She wants to be next to me all the time. I’m hoping she will sleep in her bed on the floor next to me when we go to sleep, we shall see.
She also doesn’t know what toys are or how to play with them.
I don’t think she has really been a pet, she can learn as time goes I guess.
It’s lovely having her, so far so good.
