Learning To Be A Family Pet

I read somewhere that all the things I have been doing show me in her eyes to be a weak pack leader and so I’m trying to change that. Praise for no reason, allowing her to climb all over me and showing her pity when she is scared have only given her less security.

Now when she climbs up to demand that I pick her up I push her gently down. I still hug her way too much but we are talking about a pug. I take my space, I need my own time too, it’s been an exhausting week!

The other thing I’m trying to help her learn is how to walk on a leash, that’s improving every day. Today we walked almost the entire way to the studio and she went potty outside on the road not in the house! I’ve spoiled her a bit too much already though because she rejected the treat I offered her to celebrate her move towards being house trained… The treat was a water softened dog bisquit, I would have rejected it too, I didn’t have anything else on me. We shall go to the pet store today and get more treats.

Her body relaxes more and more, I can feel her muscles start to be less tense. I think the walking helps with that as well as her teeth being treated.

Every morning she has her pain killer then antibiotics and then the eyes, nose crimple and ears.  That won’t be forever but for now we have to follow vet’s orders.

So happy with sweet pea. I hope we can get her to be house trained, there’s no rush, we will do our best, I will pretend she’s a puppy and do it the way we did it with Pugsley. I will also buy those training pads today too.

All is well.
